Feng Shui

Feng shui studies the interaction of environmental chi with our body's chi. One sensate attribute for the flow of chi is color. Color in a living body's aura is reflective of the balance and harmony within that living body. In the same way, colors in the environment are reflective of balance and harmony for the chi flow outside our body. Proper control of environmental light and colors can promote balance and harmony within our body.

In feng shui, colors are conceptualized as specific for the five elements that make up the universe.

  • earth is yellow
  • fire is red
  • water is black
  • wood is green
  • metal is white

Fung shui's study of environmental influence on our body also includes the relationship of yin-yang's property of light and dark, the influence of colors associated with a person's year-of-birth and colors which are associated with directional orientations:

  • north is black
  • northeast is yellow
  • east is blue
  • southeast is green
  • south is red
  • west is white
  • northwest is purple

Feng shui considers color associations between environmental chi and body chi:

  • violet or purple is associated with the head
  • red is associated with the heart
  • yellow, green and blue are associated with the digestive organs

In modern color therapy (colored light is shined into the eyes) different colors have different effects.

Blue/violet are known to reduce headaches; red increases blood pressure; yellow, green and blue relieves digestive ills and yellow is beneficial to certain mental disorders.
