Feeling Chi

 

As one develops perception from the deep senses, chi can be seen, felt and heard. Sensing chi is sensing the aura of a living or non-living body. A good way to develop "feeling" as a deep sense is to gather and concentrate chi. Accumulating concentrated chi is useful in holistic healing procedures and it is a technique used in martial arts.

A good example of gathering chi involves standing in a doorway with your hands down at your sides. Extend your arms until they touch the door frame, without bending or locking the elbows. Push gently and steadily on the door frame for about five minutes. Then, while maintaining the position of your arms, release the pressure just enough to step out of the door frame. Note that your arms want to raise on their own.

Forming a ball-of-chi in your hands is another good example of chi gathering. Enter a meditative state and bring your hands together with palms facing and your finger/thumb tips touching. Separate the finger/thumb tips slightly and move you hands slightly and slowly as if you are rolling a ball. Some folks conceptualize that their exhaled breath is directed at the ball. Our deep sense center, in the temple, permits perception of a soft, cushy, ball that is slowly growing in your hands. The feeling is similar to the attractive/repulsive forces you feel as two magnets are brought together, though you will not sense any attractive or repulsive force, just the cushy ball which is a concentration of chi. Holding a chi ball is one exercise in the study of Tai Chi.

You can also feel chi by moving you palm along the surface of your arm. In a meditative state, you can switch your awareness of this sensation between your palm and arm. The two sensations are quite different. Holistic practitioners use this procedure in healing techniques on others … though … it's not so good idea for a novice. A person does not need to believe in their aura to perceive an intrusion into their personal space, it's improper and a good way to get punched in the nose. There is usually very little to sense with a person who does not know and like you well as most people "pull-in" their auras around strangers and in places which are not considered "safe" and "home". One fortunate attribute of deep senses is that folks who might use them for unreasonable gain, advantage or to show-off will usually never achieve the level of balance. stillness and center that is required. Honest intent, persistence and experience will usually permit one to feel chi around many kinds animals and plants.

You can also feel the chi of non-living subjects. A good place to start is with rocks and crystals. Select rocks while you are in a meditative state ... size, shape, color are not important, just the choice. If you collect a group of rocks, you will notice that chi changes as you change the rocks in a group and/or their arrangement. Crystals are similar to rocks though there can be a lot more chi involved … as with rocks, you should choose crystals while in a meditative state.
